Maybe you take it for granted as people often do but when you have a little something, something in your hand and you’re ready to golf, how do you pick a pocket to put it in? You are definitely limited by what you wear. Ok men, tune out since your pockets are pretty much the same. Although maybe you are one of those engineer types who are missing the shirt pocket protector that carried your pens and mechanical pencils of old. Actually some golf shirts do have pockets. N5 specialized in just that, not the protector but the pocket over the “pecs.” N5 however is nowhere to be found, a bygone flash in the fashion world. Too bad, they had a great design concept. Devereux and Antigua have placed pockets on the chest of polos yet I’ve never seen anything in them. It seems simply ornamental and when designed in a contrasting color or print, it does make a fun fashion statement. Chest pockets on ladies’ tops pose a whole positioning problem, which we need not address here.
Pants, now that is a different dilemma for women only since, again the men’s pocket placements are pretty standard but the women’s are not. Maybe it’s because women have always carried a purse or maybe it’s about the hips and how the pockets can fit well or not so elegantly. My pet peeve is losing my glove out of a loose pocket on the greens. That doesn’t happen when there is a back pocket as on the Antigua shorts which is also handy for pros like Stacy Lewis to fit her scorecard and make it stick. It seems to be tricky designing back pockets well too. I sewed them shut on an anonymous pair of pants just so I wouldn’t have to keep pushing the pocket fabric back down into said pocket. It’s a good idea when choosing a functional garment that you pick a pocket that suits you.
