We caught up with Lulu Faddis, Creative Director & Chief Designer for CHASE54 to find out about the new collection.
Q: Chase54 uses amazing technical fabrics like DryFuze, Sorona, High Gauge, and Heat Retention, how much research goes into these fabrics?
A: CHASE54 is a brand of apparel that is backed by the parent company with over 30 years of textile and apparel production. The company has R & D facilities in both Taiwan and China and a full textile lab in Taiwan. Our material scientists and textile experts research extensively around the various materials and structures from the molecular stage. Nano technology has revolutionized the way synthetic textiles are produced today and our scientists create smart textiles utilizing advanced materials-, which we bring to market faster than many other brands. Our scientists always strive to create sustainable fabrics by using organic materials like corn and coffee. By using recycled materials like polyester fiber from re-cycled PET bottles, otherwise ending up in landfills, we have a sustainability commitment we feel proud of as well.
Q: How are the technical fabrics tested?
A: There are industry standards to test the performance of any technical fabric. We conduct some of the tests in our in-house lab and for those attributes where we do not have the appropriate systems, the materials are sent to an outside lab to perform the specialized tests and report back to us.
Q: Many people do not realize many golf apparel companies buy fabrics from other companies, how important is it that you manufacture your own fabrics?
A: We pride ourselves in our fabric innovation and the ability to stay ahead of the pulse with market trends. It is critical to us that we manufacture our own fabrics because we know exactly what goes into making it. We have the fleet ability to adjust the weight, the content, the functionalities and the price. Some of the materials we produce are unique in that we can produce fabric in the right weight and texture for the exact purpose it is meant for.
Q: What is your most popular fabric – the moisture wicking DryFuze, the stain, odor-resistant renewable fiber made from corn Sorona by DuPont, the soft, lightweight High Gauge polyester, or the Heat Retention that absorbs energy from the sun?
A: Generally speaking, our Sorona by DuPont® is the winner because of its color brilliancy and incredibly soft-hand feel. It’s also a renewable source, originally derived from corn polymers, which upholds our sustainability focus. However, many tour pros and other CHASE54 fans love the High Gauge functionality because it is featherweight, yet not transparent.
Q: What is the difference between DryFuze, Fundamental DryFuze, and Elite DryFuze?
A: DryFuze and Fundamental DryFuze are one in the same. The DryFuze function is our signature moisture-wicking technology that also has UPF protection. The Elite DryFuze is superior as it has an even higher–speed moisture-wicking feature through a capillary action.
Q: The right cut is so important for the golf swing, how would you describe the fit for men and women?
A: It is what we call “true size,” meaning what you in your daily lives, outside of golf. We do not believe in vanity sizing. The Men’s and Women’s fit is tailored to be neither baggy, nor fitted.
Q: The new line has a modern, contemporary feel, what inspired the designs?
A: Our design inspiration comes from travel, culture and a zest for life that is something the international golf population can relate to. We follow what is happening in global fashion and consider how we can transition this to the golf market. We then consider how golfers can transition the garments from the course into their daily lives. There has to be a fashion flair that is current, yet respects the timeless nature of the game. We focus tremendously on fabrics, color, lines, textures and always have our finger on the pulse of what’s trending not only in the fashion arena, but also in golf. We carry timeless pieces throughout the groupings to diversify our offering, and even our core pieces possess creative details we are becoming known for. Bringing the hidden details alive is key to our aesthetic.
Q: Ladies golf shirts look great tucked in or not…which way are the Chase54 shirts designed and do the ladies bottoms have waistband grip tape?
A: CHASE54 ladies tops are designed to be worn untucked, but can also be tucked in. We don’t use gripper tape on the ladies because our market research indicates women prefer to leave their shirts untucked and have concerns about gripper gel irritating their skin.
Q: TEAM54 is a great group of golfers…do the Chase54 brand ambassadors offer feedback on the apparel?
A: Our brand ambassadors are key to improving our collection season after season and have become an imperative part of the CHASE54 family. They test our product and help guide us on what is working and what does not. They’ve brought a level of confidence that the path we are on is the right one. We are excited to continue growing our #TEAM54.
